About Notion’s Student Discount
Notion gives college students their Plus Plan completely free. Not a trial, not a limited version – the actual Plus Plan that normally runs $8-10/month per user. You sign in with your .edu email (or whatever domain your school uses), and you immediately get upgraded. Unlimited pages and blocks, bigger file uploads, 30-day version history, the ability to share with up to 100 guests. It’s the same plan businesses pay for, except students get it at zero cost as long as they’re enrolled and using that school email.
The Plus Plan stays free as long as your school email is active. Graduate and lose access to that email, and you’ll need to switch to a paid plan or downgrade to Notion’s free tier. But while you’re a student, it’s yours. Notion also gives students 50% off their AI add-on for the first 12 months – that’s $5/month instead of $10 for features like AI writing, summarization, and automated database actions. The AI discount is time-limited (one year), but the free Plus Plan lasts as long as you’re a student with a valid email address.
If you’re running a student organization (not just using Notion individually) there’s a separate program where your whole org can get the Plus Plan with unlimited members. You apply through Notion’s student org portal, they verify you’re legit, and your entire group collaborates for free. Clubs, project teams, volunteer organizations, whatever. How Do I Get The Notion Student Discount?
Sign in to Notion with your school email address. Go to Settings → Billing, scroll down, and click “Get free Education plan.” If your school is in Notion’s database (WHED), you’ll be upgraded immediately. No forms, no waiting for approval.
What Email Addresses Qualify?
Any email from an accredited college or university recognized in the World Higher Education Database. This includes .edu addresses but also thousands of other school domains worldwide. If it doesn’t work, your school might not be in their system yet.
Do I Need A Student ID?
No. Notion only verifies via email address. They don’t accept student IDs or other documentation – if your school email doesn’t work, you’re out of luck for now.
What Happens When I Graduate?

What If My School Email Doesn’t Work?
Your school might not be in Notion’s verification database (WHED). There’s no workaround – Notion doesn’t manually verify students or accept documentation. Try contacting Notion support, but they’re pretty strict about this.
