About WordPress.com

WordPress.com combines WordPress with managed hosting, so you don’t have to find a separate host or handle as much of the technical side yourself. Plans range from a completely free website to Business and Commerce hosting for more serious sites and online stores. Paid plans include hosting, support, and the ability to install WordPress plugins, which makes WordPress.com a much more flexible option than it used to be.

WordPress.com Deals and Ways to Save

There are quite a few ways to save on WordPress.com, but the biggest discounts usually come from choosing a longer billing term. Many times you can combine your long billing discounts with promo codes to get huge discounts. This is usually available to new customers only or existing customers signing up for a new hosting plan. It’s rare to find any large discounts for renewals.

WordPress.com Promo Codes & Exclusive Discounts

WordPress.com does run sales and occasionally sends out coupon codes for its hosting plans and other products.

WayIWork also has an official partnership with WordPress.com, so check the featured deal at the top of this page before signing up through a generic promotion. We will do our best to show the best deal we’ve found at the top of this page. If we do happen to have an exclusive promo code then you will be able to find it there. Use the link at the top of the page to access the deals. on the WordPress.com website where they usually have some sort of offer at the top of each page and on the home page.

If you do have a WordPress.com coupon code, you can enter it by clicking “Have a coupon?” during checkout.

Annual and Multi-Year Discount: Save Up to 69% With Longer Billing

WordPress.com gives you a pretty substantial discount for paying annually or for multiple years instead of month to month.

For example, the Personal plan costs $9 per month when billed monthly but drops to $4 per month with annual billing, $3.25 per month with a two-year term, or $2.75 per month when paying for three years.

Premium drops from $18 monthly to as little as $5.50 per month with a three-year term.

The discounts aren’t quite as large on Business and Commerce, but you’re still saving as much as 56% on Business and 55% on Commerce by choosing the longest term. Large discounts for longer term plans is very common in web hosting, but this offer for a premium WordPress hosting service can save you real money. If you plan on keeping WordPress.com for at least a year then signing up for the annual plan is a no-brainer.

Get a Free Domain for One Year

Annual and multi-year WordPress.com plans include a free custom domain for the first year.

Monthly plans don’t include the free domain, so that’s another reason the annual option usually makes more sense if you already know you’re going to keep the site. If you switch hosting providers you can always transfer the domain name. This free domain offer adds some value to the annual plan discount and gives you an easy setup for your new website with everything in one place.

WordPress.com Student Discount

WordPress.com has a surprisingly good deal for students at participating educational institutions.

The WordPress.com Student plan is free for the first year and includes many of the developer tools normally found on the Business plan. After the free year, it currently renews for just $24 per year, plus any applicable domain cost.

Students can’t sign up for the offer directly. You will have to verify your student eligibility and follow the instructions on the WordPress.com website.

WordPress.com Nonprofit Discount

WordPress.com does not currently offer a dedicated nonprofit or charity discount.

Nonprofits can still use the regular free plan, annual discounts, multi-year pricing, and any public promotions that are available. Many web hosting and tech brands do offer nonprofit and charity discounts so it doesn’t hurt to ask. If we find more information available on any discounts within this category we will update this section with any discount.

WordPress.com Pricing

WordPress.com has a free plan plus four standard paid plans. Paying for a longer term lowers the effective monthly price considerably. We’ve broken down the pricing below to make it easier to find a plan that works for you and your website.

PlanMonthlyAnnual2 Years3 Years
Free$0$0$0$0
Personal$9/mo$4/mo$3.25/mo$2.75/mo
Premium$18/mo$8/mo$6.50/mo$5.50/mo
Business$40/mo$25/mo$20/mo$17.50/mo
Commerce$70/mo$45/mo$36/mo$31.50/mo

The longer-term prices are shown as monthly equivalents, but you’ll pay for the full billing period upfront.

For most people who plan to keep a website for at least a year, the annual plan is probably the better starting point. The three-year pricing is much cheaper, but that’s a bigger commitment if you’re starting a new project and don’t know whether you’ll still need the site several years from now.

WordPress.com Pricing FAQ

Does WordPress.com automatically renew?

Yes. WordPress.com plans, domains, email products, and many other subscriptions automatically renew by default. You can turn automatic renewal off from your account if you don’t want to be charged again.

What payment methods does WordPress.com accept?

WordPress.com accepts major credit (Visa, American Express, Discover, and Mastercard) and debit cards. PayPal is available in supported countries, and Apple Pay and Google Pay are available on supported devices. Some countries also have additional local payment options. You can find the full list for your specific country on their checkout page.

Does WordPress.com offer refunds?

Yes. Annual, two-year, and three-year WordPress.com plans can generally be refunded within 14 days of purchase or renewal.

Monthly plans have a shorter 7-day refund period.

Domains are different and generally must be canceled within 96 hours to qualify for a refund.

Can I switch from monthly to annual billing later?

Yes. WordPress.com lets you change between monthly, annual, two-year, and three-year billing options.

If you decide you’re keeping the site, moving from monthly billing to a longer term can significantly lower the effective monthly cost. This is why we advise most new customers to use a free trial and then opt for the monthly plan for a few months before committing to the annual plan. WordPress has a great reputation as a web hosting company so I would feel fine going with the annual plan and getting the larger discount.

Can I upgrade my WordPress.com plan before it expires?

Yes. You can upgrade to a higher plan at any time. WordPress.com applies prorated credit for the unused time remaining on your existing plan toward the upgrade.
